Hello everyone and welcome to Japanese at work.

Today I would like to introduce greetings at work.

Greetings at work are slightly different from basic greetings. Here are some basic workplace greetings phrases.

“OHAYOU GOZAIMASU” (Good morning)

Used when arriving at work in the morning. It is commonly used to greet colleagues and superiors in a cheerful manner.

When you enter the workplace, the first words you say out loud are always. Even if you have to come to work in the evening or at night due to your work shift, you say 'OHAYOU GOZAIMSU(Good morning).

“OTSUKARE-SAMA DESU” (Thank you for your hard work)

Used after work or when a colleague has accomplished something. It expresses gratitude for each other's labor and efforts.

“SHITSUREI SHIMASU”(Excuse me/I'm sorry)

Used when entering a room or ending a phone call. It is a polite expression to show courtesy and respect.

“YOROSHIKU ONEGAI SHIMASU”(Please)

Used when making a request or asking for a favor. It is a polite way to convey requests or ask for cooperation.

“OSAKI NI SHITSUREI SHIMASU”(I'm sorry for leaving before you)

Used when leaving work before others. It is a polite way to excuse oneself when leaving the workplace ahead of colleagues or superiors.

These greetings may vary slightly depending on the relationship with the person or the specific situation, but they represent common expressions used in Japanese workplaces. Greetings are considered essential in conveying respect and maintaining positive communication in the workplace.
